Hai-Feng Liu is an architect at Silicon Photonics Solution Group, Intel Corporation, leading silicon photonics based product and technology development. Upon receiving Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, he joined Semiconductor Research Lab, Oki Electric in 1989 to work on high-speed semiconductor lasers and optical soliton generation using semiconductor lasers. From 1991 to 2002, he was with Department of Electronic Engineering, Melbourne University, Australia, as Reader & Associate Professor, and conducted research on high speed photonic devices & systems, and microwave photonics. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo (1995) and Chinese University of Hong Kong (2000). In 2001, he joined Sparkolor Corporation as engineering director to develop wavelength tunable semiconductor lasers. Since joining Intel in 2002, he has been working on silicon photonics technology development. He was part of the team that won 2014 OSA Forman Team Engineering Excellence Award for 12+ years of innovation in research and development of silicon photonics technologies. Dr. Liu has published widely in the areas of silicon photonics, high speed photonic devices, microwave photonics, and short optical pulse generation.
For JLT he is handling submissions on the following topics:
- Silicon photonics (devices, integrated circuits, and systems)
- Optical interconnect technologies
- Data center optics
