Yuliya Semenova

Technological University Dublin
Ireland

Prof. Yuliya Semenova received her Master in Electronic Engineering degree from Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine) in 1992 and her Ph.D. in Physics of Liquid Crystals from the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 1999. Between 1997 and 2001 she worked as a research fellow and later as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Electro-Physics at Lviv Polytechnic National University. Since 2001 she is with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Technological University Dublin (Ireland), where she is Professor since 2015, Senior Lecturer and Director of Photonics Research Centre since 2019. Her research interests span both photonics and applications of photonic devices with a focus on fiber optics. Much of her work to date has been on improving the understanding, design, and performance of optical fiber sensors with applications ranging from macro- to nanoscales. Some of the specific focus areas of her group interests are whispering gallery mode effects in microfiber resonators, plasmonic fiber structures, photonic crystal fiber sensors, sensing of volatile organic compounds in environmental monitoring, food quality assessment, medical diagnostics, and industrial control.

For JLT she is handling submissions on the following topics:

  • Optical fiber sensors
  • Plasmonics
  • Fiber microresonators
